Phone numbers
Manage numbers under Settings → Phone Numbers (Organization Admins only). Numbers are provided through Telnyx and support the US and Canada.
The tab shows Total Numbers, Active Numbers, Monthly Cost and how many numbers are Configured, and has sub-tabs for Phone Numbers, SMS Brands, SMS Campaigns and Settings.
You have three ways to get a calling number:
| Option | Calls | SMS | Available on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get New Number (buy) | ✔ | ✔ | Paid plans |
| Port Number (bring your own) | ✔ | ✔ | Paid plans |
| Verify Number (use a number you own as caller ID) | ✔ outbound caller ID only | ✖ | All plans, including trial |
Each plan includes a number of phone numbers (Using n of N included numbers). Verified numbers don't count toward that limit. Per-number pricing is shown in the app when you search.
Buy a new number
- Click Get New Number.
- Choose a Search Method — By Area Code or By State / Province — and enter the Area Code (3 digits) or pick the state/province. Optionally add a City or digits the number should Contain.
- Click Search. Results show each number's capabilities (voice / SMS / MMS).
- Select a number and confirm the purchase.
The number is active immediately and is automatically configured for calling and messaging. Your organization's default caller ID is the number marked primary, otherwise the first active number; campaign- and agent-level caller IDs can override it (see Making calls).
Port your existing number
Porting moves a number you already own from your current carrier to Call Helm. Click Port Number and complete the five steps:
- Phone Number to Port and your Current Provider.
- Your carrier Account Number and Account PIN/Password.
- Authorized Contact name, email and phone.
- Billing address (and service address if different).
- Business type, optional Requested Port Date (tomorrow or later), and the authorization checkbox.
Porting typically takes 7–10 business days. Keep your existing service active until the port completes — cancelling early can cause the port to fail, and your current carrier may charge early-termination fees. Track progress on the Phone Numbers tab (Pending → Submitted → In Progress → Completed).
Verify a business number (caller ID)
If you just want contacts to see your existing business number when you call:
- Click Verify Number.
- Enter your US or Canadian business phone number.
- Choose Voice Call (works for any phone) or SMS Text (mobile phones only) to receive a verification code, then enter the code. You can request a new code after 60 seconds.
The verified number appears as Verified Business Line and can be used as caller ID for outbound calls. Verified numbers cannot send or receive SMS — to text, buy or port a number.
Forwarding
Each number has a Forwards to field you can edit. Note that inbound call handling (forwarding to that number, voicemail) is not yet active — see Inbound calls.
Trial numbers and the grace period
If you added a number during your trial and the trial ends without upgrading, the number goes into a 30-day grace period:
- It can still receive calls and texts, but outbound calls and SMS from it are disabled.
- You'll get reminder emails at 14, 7, 3 and 1 days before the deadline.
- Upgrade to a paid plan within 30 days to keep the number. After that it is released and cannot be recovered.
Removing a number
There is no self-service option to release a number. Email hello@callhelm.com if you need a number removed.
SMS Brands and SMS Campaigns
These sub-tabs are where you register for 10DLC so carriers deliver your text messages. See SMS compliance (10DLC).
